Dell Poweredge 2600 - /bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off

We're trying to install Kubuntu & LinuxMCE onto a Dell Poweredge 2600.

The CD boots, we choose Install Kubuntu, we get the Kubuntu logo and then we're getting the error...

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job con trol turned off

I'd say your first problem is in the "hard drive" domain -- not sure what exactly is the problem. Did you make a couple of partitions for "/" and "swap", or are you going to use the partitioner on the Install CD to do that? Might be better to make a GParted Live CD, and do the partitioning with that, in advance of installing the OS. :P

We have successfully installed openSuSE 10.2 on this machine and then tried installing Feisty Fawn on top. openSuSE created the /, /boot & swap partitions.

With Kubuntu, we don't get to the desktop and we get the /bin/sh prompt about 4 seconds after selecting Install Kubuntu from the GRUB menu.

After removing the partitions and reconfiguring the RAID, we tried again and still get the same error.

        Hmmm.

You don't need a separate /boot partition for *buntu, and the "RAID" setup is a non-standard issue -- I can't advise you on that one. :P
