    Anyone has installation problem like me??

    Hi everyone,


    I have spent 3 days trying to install Kubuntu 7 on my laptop.
    i did the following since Kubuntu cannot read my video card.
    sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg.
    then selected VESA.
    finally, i typed startx but the computer gave me a fatal error message.
    I also tried sudo apt-get install xorg-driver-fglrx to install driver; it worked but i do not know what to do next.

    Can you help me??

    This is my laptop specs: 1.8GHz centrino, 256 Mb dedicated ATI mobility radeon video card, 1.5 GB RAM, 100 GB HDD.

      Maybe this can help you. Yesterday I installed the latest updates, which included the new 2.6.20-16 kernel.
      For some reason my X server would not start this morning.

      I remembered some problems with the "splash" parameter in boot.lst, so I removed it and it worked.

      Assuming your boot manager is grub, here is an outline of how to fix it

      - boot in recovery mode
      - login as root
      - cd /boot/grub
      - make a copy of menu.lst
      - edit the file and in a like that looks like this
      /vmlinuz-2.6.20-16-generic root=UUID=........ ro quiet splash

      remove the "splash" and reboot
      As I said, not sure this is your problem but it's worth a try.

        It may be that 256 mb is not enough to install from live cd. I have had to use the alternate cd for installs on machines with only 256mb memory.
        I tried Enlightenment once, it was pretty cool.

          But is 256 MB not the video memory? I think he has 1.5 GB ram
