Can't install on HP Laptop

Hi, I tried to install Kubuntu on my laptop, but it failed.
I have been asked to check the CD and memory.

when I clicked on CHECK CD FOR DEFECTS, it gave

And when I clicked on Memory Test (after rebooting my Laptop), it took 25 hours without seeming to having acheived anything.


My Laptop is a HP Pavilion DV 2500, Duo Core 2 1,66 Ghz with 1 Ghz ram..........



and installing is not running in any case.......so what should I do?

I'd give some other version of Linux (e.g. Mepis 7, based on Debian 4) a try - at least until the Kubuntu developers have figured out how to solve this (their) problem ...

Hi All,

I have been wrestling with an HP DV6500T for over a week now, and have managed, with much help from people such as DIBL, to get it working in dual-boot mode with Vista. However, I still have much to sort out with it, and am quite frankly wondering if I should just scrub Kubuntu and give Fedora 8 a try, which worked well as a LiveCD (perhaps this points to more out of the box compatibility with my hardware when fully installed).

Anyway, I have started putting together a post detailing the steps I went through. I am pasting what I have so far below, so perhaps you will find this helpful. It points to all the threads I have visited to get to where I am thus far......



Here’s a summary of getting Kubuntu to work on a new HP DV6500T, purchased in November, 2007. I am writing this to try and provide a central place to which people with the same machine can refer without having to hunt through the fora to solve the various issues that come up.

This has taken over a week of work (although not full time, to be fare).

The second post provides some information and links regarding dual-booting with Vista and Feisty via Vista’s disk management tools, GParted, and the Feisty Alternate CD.

I learned a lot from DIBL on this post, and worked out a fair number of kinks, including upgrading the kernel to Gutsy’s latest.

This is where I have ended…I am at a dead end here…..
