So I got a new computer (160 gig HD, 1 gig of ram, AMD 3200 2 ghz processor, ati 6600 GT) with Windows XP pre-installed. I have been hearing good things about linux so I thought that I would give it a try. Not wanting to erase the XP partition, i found a walkthrough that explained how to install Kubuntu onto a hard drive without erasing the windows partition. So i used gparted from a Linux system rescue CD to shrink the partition to ~60 gig and create an EXT3 linux partition, a swap partition, and a FAT32 partition for sharing between the operating systems. I finish with that and put in the kubuntu CD and install as normal. I put the GRUB onto the linux partition, and set it to be the bootable partition. Then I rebooted to the linux partition, expecting the install to finish. Guess what: IT DIDN'T. Now I can't good things like create new users, which sucks. I almost want to make my windows partition take up the whole drive again and not worry about this stupid thing anymore, unless someone can help.

Re: Windows is better than linux because Kubuntu won't finish the install
WTF didn't you put GRUB in the primary disk MBR, just like everyone in earth does? Why set the linux partition to bootable and put GRUB there, if you don't have the least idea on how to manage such a boot configuration?
