a smaller install cd, or using a hard disk?

I can't burn a working CD after trying multiple computers and even TAO. I suspect it is the low quality of my GQ media from Fry's . . ..

Since I'm still a couple of days (at least) from being able to hobble through the store, I'm looking at other possibilities (besides, that might not be it!)

A smaller cd image may work better, judging from past experience. Is there a minimal installer image for feisty?

Or is there a way to put the ISO image onto a spare hard drive and boot from that?

Or perhaps to copy from a working system to the hard drive to get enough to update?

    thanks

How are you burning the disc. It must be burned as an image not as a file or just copied to disc. What software are you using to burn the disc?

I'm using k3b on an Compaq running 6.10. I've used its own drive and stuck in a brand new LG drive.

I get disks that fail during boot.

At the moment, I'm trying a disk from a different spindle.

Another possibility that has occurred to me is to burn the image to a dvd, if that is possible--my dvds are memorex rather than brand x.

      thanks
