Last week some user posted a link with free Linux e-books for download, one or two of them were for administration, so chances are they pretty much cover the commands.
You need to search within the forums because I can't remember the thread name, nor can I remember the poster.
Apparently users who experience this behaviour have an Intel graphics card and use the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver. The problem is more severe than I thought and a bug report has already been filed in Launchpad. For more info and tracking take a look at this:

Actually my problem got solved after I installed "xserver-xorg-video-intel" driver to replace "xserver-xorg-video-i810" driver.
