intel matrix raid with two volumes

Just got a new Dell 9200 and converted the raid0 to raid1 using the intel matrix bios. I created two volumes. Installed XP on the first voulme and now wish to use the remaining space for Kubuntu.

I tried to follow the ubuntu fakeraid howto and can at least get to the part where I need to do an fdisk ie in the install disk I set up dmraid and see that I have two volumes. The howto seems to assume there's only one volume and I'm a bit confused. Is it possible for me to just use the installer after the dmraid stuff is done and point the installation at the second dmraid volume?

Where will the grub installer/mbr be placed?

If only the blocks for the second volume get messed with ,then at least my XP volume cannot get trashed. I can always fix up the grub loading after the installation by using the install disk in rescue mode.

My problem then would be how to get the XP boot to boot off volume1.

I confess I didn't understand the description of the problem.
What exactly do you want to do?

Where will the grub installer/mbr be placed?
By default it is in the mbr of the first disk.

OK in the normal setup for a dmraid as decribed in the ubuntu fakeraid howto https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FakeRaidHowTo
it seem to be assumed that there's only one raid volume. However, on my setup I converted the original raid0 into a raid1. During the raid1 setup I created two volumes on the same pair of disks so now I seem to have two fakeraid devices in the /dev/mapper area. Obviously they're both based on the same physical disks, but I'm not terribly certain what this implies about the installation process. Is it the same as if I had two sets of disks or what?

I guess I can go through the fakeraid setup and try and substitute the right devices etc etc, but I thought there might be some way to just point the installer at this device. However, when I start the installer it just seems to see to disks and not the mapper stuff at all.

There are some things I don't fully understand in the fakeraid howto so I'll probably have further questions if I cannot get the install done with the installer.

        Hmmmm...
I swear I have no idea on how to fix this. Maybe some of the wise guys have experience with this situation. I never came across it.
