problem with Kubuntu first load after installation

    Hi,

I have a problem getting Kubuntu to boot up after I have installed it. I have a HPdv9428nr laptop. It is farily new. It has a AMD 64x2 @ 2200MHz, 2 gigs of ram, and a Geforce go 6150

I also had a hard time getting the live CD to boot, having to select both the Safe graphics mode, and setting the resolution and color depth with the f4 option (using either by themselves resulted in the same problem I have trying to boot it now).

So once I got it installed, I try to boot it. It gets passed the "loading" screen, but not any further. I can't get to the login prompt. The best way I can explain what happens, is that in the whole screen is black, although the upper right corner is illuminated. About 1/4th of the way down from the upper right corner, there is a line that moves from the right side of the screen to the left, horizontally, and on the top it is bright, the bottom is less so (its very apparent on the right side, and becomes less so as it moves left).

I don't know what to do from here. Any help would be appreciated (p.s. when the live cd loads up, it uses the vesa graphic driver)

If you have a boot menu, it should show "Recovery Mode" -- boot that. It is text mode. Then, follow the instructions here: http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3085112.0

to configure the xserver to use VESA graphics mode. This should get you a basic GUI functionality.

Then, I would recommend you follow this advice that I just wrote for another poster with the identical Nvidia card (bottom of the thread):

Good luck -- let us know how you fare.
