I have re-installed several times, but wthout any luck.
I installed kubuntu on a logical partition, does that have anything to do with it?Comment

No, theoretically at least grub can boot from a logical partition if installed in the MBR. Note that logical partitions in grub are always from hd(0,4). I mean hd(0,4) is the first logicla partition, hd(0,5) the second, etc...

But try to keep the boot partition on a physical one (the boot partition is the one with the kernel and grub files, usually / ) and let's see.
