installation of Kubuntu on a partition

    Hi
I am very new to Kubuntu (Fiesty Dawn) Linux. I have this laptop running Windows XP on one of my partitions. Do you think I could safely install Kubuntu on the second partition with dual boot.

    What are your suggestions?

    thanks

Yep, if you've got at least 10, and better 20GB in that empty partition.

It's best to separate your "data", i.e. /home directory, from your OS, i.e. "/" directory, so if you can stand to use extended partitions, you need to reserve at least 8GB for "/", probably 0.5 GB for swap, and the rest of it for /home.

I like the Gparted Live CD for partitioning -- get it here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...kage_id=173828

After you've set your partitions, click "apply", then you can exit the GParted partition, boot the Kubuntu CD, and proceed with setting the mount points to the partitions that you made.
