    Kubuntu 7.04 3 times broke after update

    Hi, I very much love Kubuntu 7.04, I am very exited with it,
    but sadly after the last update it broke my system, so
    yesterday night i reinstalled the system twice, and today
    it asked me again to update over 80 packages, so I did,
    it went well all, then the system froze and I could`t restart
    the x-window and had to press the button, and now
    it will not boot up anymore. I am now desperated and do not
    understand what is happen? How this can be?
    I want my Kubuntu back working like in the beginning.
    Should I not do an update at all? But when I do not update
    I can`t even install the few missing software I need, why?
    Please help.
    Can this be that I by mistake downloadet the unstable version? But
    I was sure I was searching for the stable fianl release.
    I would apriciate very much your help.

    I realise that i get no response, I hope I explained it all right? Sorry but my english is not my native language and it sounds sometimes broken.
    I reinstalled kubuntu now the 4th time, I only hope it will not breake again.
    If someone can please tell me how to fix a broken installation when it will happen again, and if i should better not do any updates anymore after the first big update? If I don`t do the first update then there I cant download and install any software from the repo.

      Of course, regular updates are supposed to improve your system - not crash it ... How are you attempting to update? By means of Adept? And what does your list of repositories contain? (To answer the latter question, you could e.g. just post /etc/apt/sources.list as a whole ...)

        Hi, thank you for your response, I do this automatic update when it shows the icon and click then on "yes", and then it updates.

        I pasted this "/etc/apt/sources.list" in to my Consol and clicked "enter", and i get> denied.
        so i cannot help, sorry. do not know how to get the list you want. I do not know how to do all this commands.
        I hope it will stay stable now. I didn`t installed medibuntu and automatix anymore, maybe it was cause of this that the update broke it?
        So i leave my fingers away from it from now on.

          Hi,
          I have a similar problem after recently ( 2 days ago) updating kubuntu.
          But the problem is intermittent-so I am having a problem finding the cause.However, it is usually solved (if temporarily) by a cold boot.Turn off the power for at least2 minutes.
          At least this way it is back up and running.

            Hi sparkax, thank you , I did turn offthe power from my external usb hdd, for a few minutes, and then i turned it on, but still, it tried to boot and then it hangs, without any error messages, this is odd.
            I only hope that now it will not happen to me again.

              Try the following command to post your repository list

              Code:
              sudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list
              You could use any text editor in place of kate, but you need to run that code as a super user (administrator) to get read access to the file.

              You'll just have to enter your password after running the command, then post that text here for others to help.

                Wait a minute ... you never mentioned that you are trying to boot from an external USB harddisk - which, as indicated i.a. by several threads in this forum, is a rather delicate issue ...

                  Hi Unicorn,
                  I guess i posted the tread on the wrong place.
                  I never had a problem from external usb hdd when installing from alternate installation CD,
                  Dapper drake was the stablest, but many things were not running like with feisty, feisty has also lots more software in the Repo.

                    Hi all, I'am having the same problem as describe from ilanesh1. I guess it's ot a matter of of using external Harddisk.

                    Before than, Can U tell me where and how I add and remove repository list?
