Another screen resolution problem, unlike the others

I just successfully installed kubuntu 7.04 in Parallels on my new MBP. I am also 100% new to Linux. After searching the forums, I couldn't find anything dealing with parallels and Kubuntu, so I need to know:

How can I change the screen res from 1024x768 to my MBP's resolution of 1440x900? I went to the system settings, and the bar for res wouldn't go higher than what I have.

Also, while I'm asking silly questions, can anyone link me to a nice newbie guide for someone who is coming from Windows XP and/or Mac OS X as I use both regularly. Thanks for any help.

      smirkus,
My system (Dell Dimension 2400) pulled something like that one on me not long after a successful install of 7.04. I had rebooted after the install (only once I think) and hibernated it once; it went into 640X480 on the way back up. The res options offered nothing higher. I finally gave up and decided to let the system reboot. Voila, 1600X1200!
I figure the system was either still configuring something, or it managed to forget the video capabilities across the hibernate. I have not had time to test the latter idea yet.
As for guides, there are a number of pages scattered around out there. I am a total newbie (from Windows) myself, and I'm just starting to compile links to sites that I need to read through later. Here is what I've compiled just today:

      http://www.ssepan.com/dnn3/Default.aspx?tabid=133

Let me know if that URL doesn't work for you -- I can't test it directly from my internal network.

That is a great collection of links you have there. Actually, I found the answer to my problem. I think Kubuntu didn't recognize your video card in your first installation, but that doesn't matter, because you could have run the scripts again, or tried this site (though it didn't fix my problem: http://help.ubuntu.com/community/Fix...esolutionHowto

Here is my post on the parallels forum board (http://forum.parallels.com/thread14031.html):

After reading through this thread: http://forums.macnn.com/104/alternat...en-resolution/

I realized it is probably better to use vmware for linux, but I'm sticking to parallels anyways, so I clicked this link:

        http://muffinresearch.co.uk/archives...sktop-for-mac/

and after he explains how to install Ubuntu, explains exactly how to change the resolution properly so it works. I did it, and after resetting x server, everything worked great. Just to check that I did everything right, under resolutions, all the ones I selected were there.

Also, I don't know this yet, but I think Parallels 3.0 does fix a lot of this anyways, post here to let me know.
