    apt-get suddenly fails

Been using Feisty 7.04 with Gnome for several weeks now. Yesterday, installed kubuntu-desktop and switched over to KDE. Now, apt-get doesn't work anymore.

Copied a deb file to my home directory. Confirmed it existed there:

    ll@bill-desktop-ubuntu:~$ ls -l smp*.deb
    -rwxrwx--- 1 bill bill 951445 2007-06-28 00:05 smplayer_0.5.21_i386.deb

    Then ran apt-get:
    bill@bill-desktop-ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install smplayer*.deb
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
    E: Couldn't find package smplayer_0.5.21_i386.deb

So, if it couldn't find the package, then how did it figure out the full filename?

Saw some posts about the sources.list file, so here it is:
    # See http://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes for how to upgrade to
    # newer versions of the distribution.

you can also try apt-get check, followed by apt-get update, then apt-get upgrade, then try installing the package again

        Re: apt-get suddenly fails

A simple way of resolving this could be more easily done by bringing up Konqueror and right clicking on the .deb file then selecting "Kubuntu Package Menu" >> Install

Keep your stick on the ice...

        Landor
