No video on a HP Pavilion XE743

Every time I try to run the CD on boot, I get video for the starting, but then loose it. I tried F4 for VGA settings but only get VGA as a choice. I've tried booting in to Video Safe mode as well and the same thing happens. I get the screen with the progress bar that says Kubuntu above the status bar, but then loose video. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. I really want Kubuntu on this system for my friend. Thank you all.

PS: I've also tried to add a new video card, but failed at that as well.

pls confirm: you mean you're running the live cd?

from what i see on hp's website, this box has an intel 810 in it.
this card is supported alright.
it shouldn't give you any troubles.

you might want to have a go with the ubuntu live, before anything else.
in principles it shouldn't make any difference, but you never know.
