    dell inspiron 6000 wont install

in short i have a dell inspiron 6000 with core2duo cpu and an ATI X1400 video card, intel wireless

my issue is when booting from install cd X does not starts i just get a black screen i do ALT+F4 and i can get to the loging i do have a wired connection and it works as i tried wget and i can download stuff thru it

my question is there a way to update the ATI drivers install Kubuntu and get BERYL to work,

i did it with UBUNTU and everything work flawlessly even BERYL, as i found a website that tell me step by step but it is some guy and only has ubuntu stuff when i try it with Kubuntu it works but BERYL is all broke and can't get it to work no matter what

    thank you for any suggestions

since ubuntu worked, start from ubuntu.
get your drivers sorted and all (ati always seems to be a bit tricky).
then install the kubuntu-desktop package via apt-get/synaptic/whatever.
you will then have both gnome and kde together.
you can then choose one or the other at login time.
once you've figured out which one you like the most, you can get rid of the other.
    i like kde, i can't stand gnome.
but i still use a couple of gnome applications (i.e. synaptics and gparted)
