Please do not use the CODE tag when pasting content that contains formatting (colored, bold, underline, italic, etc) Use the QUOTE tag instead.
The CODE tag displays all content as plain text, including the formatting tags, making it difficult to read.
I'm having the same problem -- system seems to be crawling.
CPU usage hovers around 50%. When I look at the process table, xorg is using 35-45% (VMsize 170,240). Not sure what it means, but the swap -s command yields:

I think I found the problem. I have a system monitor running in superkaramba (Talv Monitor). If I close the monitor, it drops down to 1% usage. Are there problems with Kubuntu & Superkaramba? I had the same exact monitor theme with Linspire 5.0 and it worked with hardly any CPU usage.
