Sound problems after making change to display settings

I was running Kubuntu 7.04 on a Biostar Geforce 6100-M9 socket 939 mobo and an AMD Sempron 3400+ processor and everything was fine. Yesterday, I replaced the mobo with a Foxconn 6150BK8MC-KRSHN2 socket 939 GeForce 6150 mobo and an Athlon 64 3200+ processor. The installation went fine and all was well until this morning. After I made a change to the display settings, from the VESA driver to nv driver, the sound no longer works properly. I also changed the monitor from generic to my specific monitor, a Dell FP173. I get sound, but the problem is that it's very choppy and I also hear intermittent clicks from the speakers. These clicks are completely random and not related to anything I'm doing. I've reset the video driver back to vesa but still have the sound problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this sound problem?

    Thanks!

If it is a desktop, is it possible that something isn't seated correctly in any of the slots? I'd check that first. Reseat everything to be sure.
