    Partitioning failure on installation

I dowlnloaded the Feisty Fawn DVD ISO last night, and decided to try installing it on my "D" partition. The attempts to partition it failed without explanation , just "an error occurred during partitioning." Rebooting into Windows XP shows me this:

I then tried again, but could not resize the "/sda5" partition, as these screenshots show. My apologies for the poor bquality of the shots taken on my phone. Any advice on how to fix this so that I can proceed with an installation will be gratefully received.

    Re: Partitioning failure on installation

OK, it turns out I stuffed up. My PC has a software RAID setup by the looks of things, and that was a logical drive I was trying to partition. Happily, my "C" drive is unscathed, and I can still use the Feisty Fawn DVD as a "Live CD", but I'm still keen on fixing this if I can.

I've seen posts referring to "mdadm" in conjunction with installing on RAID setups -- search the forum and Ubuntu Forums on that term and you may find help.

Thanks! It turns out the damage was not fatal. After formatting the logical drive in XP, Kubuntu installed without any glitches, except for my picking the wrong keyboard.

Thought I recognised the name from the OpenOffice Forum.

          Welcome to this one!

Glad you sorted the problem out.

Thanks for the welcome! Now to get my printer recognised (Konica Minolta 2430DL), and relearn the xconf thing to get my nvidia drivers working and have my monitor recognised (dozens of Samsung Syncmasters listed, but not the 940B)
