Help for my friends computer

Here is the situation. My friend was curious about Kubuntu and wanted to try it out. He loaded a live CD and installed the OS. I think he told the system to use his entire hard drive for Kubuntu.

Is there anyway to recover his lost data or even recover his lost operating system?

If he really did format the whole drive it's unlikely that he can recover it, he will need to stop using the machine immediately, remove the hard drive and get it seen to by a professional data recovery service to stand any chance of getting his data back.

There is a large warning that says formating the drive will erase data and recommending that you back up all critical data. Caveat Emptor!

Are you sure it's deleted it what are the options in the GRUB boot menu that appear at the beginning of the boot sequence?
