How can setup so boot works with no keyboard

I want to run a machine a music server / security webcam monitor box.

I want to access it using either VNC which I have working of eventually Free NX.

At the moment, when ever I boot without the keyboard connected, the boot fails. This is not during the initial phase, there is nothing in BIOS, it is no doubt some config required within X server? Would that be correct?

It does boot without the mouse, and screen connected, but not the keyboard. How do I get it to do this.?
