HELP I CANNOT ACCESS MY COMPUTER!!!

I was trying to install beryl on my machine, I rebooted and now the interface is gone..the only thing that appears is a black screen asking me for login in and password but it looks like and over sized command box...help

my machine is a fujitsu, c series lifebook radeon etc...i dont know much about since it was a present (my friend Updated his laptop and I had this one exclusively for linux(kubuntu) last thing I did was to open sudo kate /etc/X11/xorg.conf

no worries.
hit ctrl-alt-f1.
log in with your username and password after entering the following command:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

answer the questions.
accept defaults, if you don't know.
keep it..."simple".
when done, hit ctrl-alt-backspace (to restart the graphics server).
you should then get back with an acceptable graphic configuration.
