When I first installed Feisty on my laptop (dual boot with XP), I created a root partition and then the rest of the free space was marked "unusable". After messing around and trying it 3 or 4 times, it finally worked and allowed me to proceed to make a swap and home partition. I don't know why it considered the space unusable and I don't know why it eventually worked.
Now my daughter has had the same problem on a different computer but it will not get past the "unusable" designation. I have also read one account of the same problem by another poster here on kubuntu forums (that user received no help here) http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3083162.0
So why does the partition manager mark the space unusable and what can I do about it? Since I know of three separate instances of this problem, I suspect it may be pretty common.
