Video no joy - what to do?

I'm disappointed in feisty's video capabilities.

I use an Averatec AV7170 laptop with Nvidia Geforce 6100 video.

Install from all options leads to a white screen.

    Any idea what to do?

No guarantees, but I would go straight to Envy to install the driver for that graphics chip.

    Good luck!

Re: Video no joy - what to do?

On both edgy and feisty with my GeForce 6200 machine, I had to use the alternate install CD and post-install I was greeted by a black screen. I don't recall if Ctrl-Alt-F1 got me to a login screen but I don't think it did, which is why I used the method below.

I booted a rescueCD (www.sysresccd.org), mounted the Kubuntu partition, and edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf (nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf) In the device section I changed "nv" to "nvidia". Rebooted and this causes X to fail to start because the nvidia driver is missing. Press enter for a login prompt. Login and install the nvidia drivers with:
      Code:
      sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx nvidia-kernel-common
      sudo reboot
      That does it for me.
