Nvidia driver low resolution

Before the nvidia driver i would have a resolution of 1024x768

My nvidia card is a FX5200.

I installed nvidia-driver and now my resolution is 800x600. I can't alter it to put it back on 1024x768.

I used this to install the nvidia driver

sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx nvidia-kernel-common
sudo nvidia-xconfig

Can anybody tell me how i can fix this?

run nvidia-settings as root change the settings and save them....

Try Envy -- it should be able to un-install and re-install the correct driver.

sudo apt-get install envy

or run Adept Manager and mark it for installation that way.

never had that problem but try kdesu nvidia-settings

i did that kdesu nvidia-settings and then i get my nvidia settings.

Now i can't change the resolution. I can only select auto

Thanks -- that is some great information!

But, ummmm, regarding running as root, I find this near the bottom of the wiki article, regarding getting the Nvidia drivers settings written to xorg.conf:

If all else fails, try running the following command:

sudo nvidia-settings

Under Video Configuration set your resolution and refresh rate, click apply, then save X Config.

The "exception that proves rule" I guess ....

Sorry, as the end of the link says works for me. And has with the last three releases of kubuntu...................
