upgrade failed, cannot reboot from CD

    Hi,
I run the upgrade from 6.10 to 7.04 on Dell Inspiron 8200, but the upgrade went wrong. I think it is not worth it try to understand what went wrong and how to correct it, therefore I would fresh-reinstall the new Kubuntu version.
My problem is that if I put the CD with Kubuntu, it does not boot from there, although in the BIOS, it is set that it should boot from CD first, then from HD.
    Can someone help me?
How can i force the laptop to boot from cd?
    Best,
    Marco

    Marco:

Try two quick tests to determine the source of your problem:

    1. Try booting your laptop with some other bootable CD (Windows, etc)
    2. Try booting another PC with your Kubuntu CD

The outcome of these tests should tell you if you have a problem with your Kubuntu CD or if it's a problem with your laptop.

Re: upgrade failed, cannot reboot from CD

It's hard to tell exactly what might be the problem - if your BIOS says the CD is the first boot device, and the CD that you put in it won't boot, then one would tend to suspect that it is not a bootable CD, or if it was supposed to be, then possibly there was some defect in burning it.

Here is a suggestion, without knowing very much about what you want. Download the "PC (Intel x86) alternate install CD" ISO image for Feisty, and burn it at a slow speed. This should produce a bootable CD that you can use to install Kubuntu, and it will let you do partitioning and ask you where you want the Grub file. If there are any problems, you may be able to tell where in the process that problem is happening.

yes, the CD was not well burned, that is why it did not boot from there.
thanks a lot for your help guys,
