nVidia and Beryl in Kubuntu 7.04

    Hello!

Having tried Ubuntu 7.04, now trying to do the same on Kubuntu Feisty Fawn (7.04). Once installed, I would like to enable nVidia drivers (as in Ubuntu) and Special Desktop Effects (The famous Cube). In Ubuntu this is very easy. Just enable and Desktop effects and you are done. I think here it has to be something easy too. Isn't it?

So, How can I enable nVidia drivers and the Cube?

I will really appreciate your valuable help . Thanks in advance,
    Glore2002.-

Open up the terminal and type:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get -y install nvidia-glx nvidia-kernel-common
    sudo nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals

Unholey Moley has provided the correct installation instructions for nvidia-glx-new, HOWEVER you first must have installed the package linux-restricted-modules-`uname -r`.

One more thing. If your card is a newer one, then I recommend

      Code:
      sudo nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals -composite

Every time I try to set beryl-manager to BERYL instead of KWIN the screen flashes and doesn't change.

Anyone got a clue what I am missing.

        glxgears works.
        I have emerald theme installed.
Question on the themes. do you just pick a theme and press quit, because there is no apply button?

        Thanks for all replies

Type: beryl from console and see if everything passes. Nvidia may be running but not properly set up.

Thanks for the help. I had composite disabled in Xorg.conf file. Works now.

Just have to play with it now to see what's so special about it.

Is the wavy screens (folders) about it. This is what Billy Boy spent 6 billion on?

Aren't you glad it wasn't your money, Michel? I'm glad it wasn't mine (and I'm not helping him recoup the investment, either!).
