Hi,
I'm getting a really strange error on trying to install kubuntu.
I've just bought a new computer, this is my system:
Asus P5B, P965 (ATX, PCI-e, Sound, LAN, SATA II, RAID)
Samsung SHS183A 16x (Dual-Layer, SATA, Zwart) OEM
Seagate 320GB SATA II 7200RPM 16MB Barracuda 7200.10
Corsair 2GB DDR2 (2x1GB) PC5400 667Mhz CL4 (TWIN2X2048-5400C4)
Samsung SyncMaster 225BW (22enquot;, Wide, 5ms gg, D-Sub/DVI,
Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 Media Center Kit Retail
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (2,40GHz. , 266MHz. QDR FSB, 64Kb. L1, 4MB
Asus GeForce 8500 GT 256MB DDR3 (PCI-e, 2x DVI) EN8500GT SILENT/HTD/256M
Perhaps the problem is with the graphics card because it is really recent.
First time I tried to start te installer, it tried to load pcip (i think that's the pcmcia) devices, and failed because of that. But it's not a laptop so i switched that off with the boot-option hw-detect/start_pcmcia=false. Then i could get into the install menu (when using the alternate install). But then when installing the base-system it crashes because "no installable kernel was found in APT sources". I would like to use an older kernel, but I don't think this is possible in the feisty-install.
Perhaps some hardware is still unknown and the installer can therefore not select a working kernel?
Also, I get a strange error during bootup saying: "No any devices found"
I'm currently working in Knoppix 5.1, which has an older version of the kernel (the install-cd I use uses kernel 2.6.20). Here not all hardware is automatically detected and setup correct but at least it boots.
I really hope someone can help me with this.
Jaap
