Problems with root password

I just installed Kubuntu, with my user name and password. When I try to change the network connection (I use fixed IP through an ethernet network) I and asked to login as root. But my password does not work. I know there is no root in ubuntu, and my password should work. Anybody could help?.

You could try this to set a root password. "sudo passwd root" then enter a password. after that you should be able to su - root or when prompted give the new password for root.
