    Can't install on SATA

    Hi all,

I tried installing using the DVD and the alternate CD version ...
DVD: when choosing "start/install kubuntu" it hangs on the "starting cups", I waited for over 10 minutes ... but it wouldn't advance ...
When choosing "safe graphic mode", it also hanged on cups ...
When choosing "text mode" it hangs shortly after detecting the keyboard, in the procedure: "detecting network hardware" while showing "loading module floppy for linux floppy" ... a complete blue screen.
I tried with noapic/nolapic switches ... no effect...

    Anyone have a solution ?

    Thanks !

      Re: Can't install

      Sure:
      Asus P4P800SE + P4 3Ghz
      2GB DDR
      Club3D Geforce 6800LE
2 SATA HD (WD Raptor 36GB and SAMSUNG PT166 400GB)
      1 IDE HD (SAMSUNG 250GB)
      2 IDE NEC DVDRW Drives.

The Raptor is the boot disk (with a 150MB partition for the /boot, the rest is on the 250GB IDE drive). I must say I just installed the second SATA drive.
I could install Kubuntu 6.10 before this drive was installed (though after Kubuntu was installed I needed to change the boot settings because of the SATA setup).

        Re: Can't install

Thank you. Now, I am not a specialist for SATA but I know there a few posts concerning this issue.
        Try:
        http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3081613.0

        or this:
        http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3080203.0

        it is doable

Maybe you should rename the post to something like: Can't install on SATA

        I hope this helps

        Cheers

          Re: Can't install on SATA

The released 7.04 installs far better and easier than the Herds and the Beta -- they really improved the partitioner/installer a lot (for which I am very grateful!).

But, if you are still having issues with the all-SATA setup, I would make a GParted live CD, and then make sure that the partition that you want to boot from is actually set as "bootable" -- that's something that you can do with GParted. Get the downloaded ISO image here:

          http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php

And of course double-check your BIOS setting, and make sure that the SATA drives are lined up to be bootable in the correct sequence.

            Re: Can't install on SATA

Managed to install it (it suddenly booted in safe graphics mode) .. but now when booting it hangs at "starting common unix printing system: cupsd" ... and just before that it fails Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD Daemon with a timeout ...
I can boot in recovery mode and then start KDM, that works ...

Anyone have the same problem ?

            Thanks !
