    Another Grub problem in Feisty

    Hi all.
    I have a 2 HD box.
I am running XP on disk 1 and I want to install Feisty on disk 2.
I use systemCommander 8 for OS selection.
With earlier versions of Kubuntu I could put "grub" in "h1,0)", but now it loads it in "h0,0" automatically which screws up my commander.

    Help would be appreciated

Wait...why are you even installing grub? Won't system commander boot your Linux partition?

      Sorry I missed your reply.
in the past (5.04, 6.06, 6.10 etc) I had a choice where to store "grub" I am not aware you don't have to have one if your are using multiple HDs. system Commander has you boot from your installation cd for a new installation. What happened to me was the "7.04 alternate" automatically installed "grub" on the MBR of disk1 where system commander resides, which of course prevented System Commander from booting "XP"..

I had to boot from my "XP" recovery disk and reinstall system commander. I then did a full install of 6.10.Put grub on h1,0 which worked. I then did an upgrade to 7.04 which did not affect the boot records so everything worked as it should

I have 2 boxes, and what I like to do when a new upgrade comes out, do a fresh install on one of the computers and port the old home directory to the new installation and leave the old one alone. When the next version comes out I do the reverse. This way I keep from collection a whole lot of obsolete stuff.

I would appreciating your comments/criticisms and suggestions.

      thanks

Re: Another Grub problem in Feisty

A month or so ago, I experimented installing Feisty using both the regular Live CD and the Alternate CD.
Both gave me a choice of where to install GRUB. No problems.

As I recall, using the regular Live CD installer, in Step 5 or Step 6, there was an Advanced button at the lower right, behind which was the “where to put GRUB” stuff.
