Do I have to do a complete re-install from 7.04 beta to the release build?

I am running the most recent beta version (the livecd > install that was available prior to release of final Feisty).

Do I have to wipe it clean and reinstall the final version, or is there some way to do an update?

No. If you have been keeping it updated, then you have the Final (in theory ). Seriously, you should be fine and will not need to reinstall or anything of that nature.

Yeah well I updated once after I did the installation, and then once last night. It didn't seem like that much was updated in terms of the size of the download, but I assume it's complete. Is there a way to check the version running? Like a way to check if I have the final bits (at least in theory) ?

This is the only thing I know that will show version of Kubuntu.

        Code:
        cat /etc/issue

The file /etc/issue holds the version of (K)Ubuntu installed on your system

When I run that I get:

Ubuntu feisty (development branch) \n \l

          Hmmmm...

Try this. Somebody has this posted and it gave more info:

            Code:
            lsb_release -a
