7.04 failure - need help to restore system

My attempt at upgrading to 7.04 yesterday failed and this morning when I tried to start my home system it didn't work at all. I must have been overconfident because I have had no problems with it in the past.
I get a whole page of text info I don't understand, starting with:
    mount -1
    and ending with:
    dosfsck 2.11, 12 mar 2005, fat32, lfn

The contact info for the person who installed kubuntu for me is in the computer I can't start. Can anyone refer me to someone in or near Berkeley, California, I can pay to help me get running again?
    Thanks!

Re: 7.04 failure - need help to restore system

For starters: are you able to reach the console (read: log-in to a non-graphical environment)?

Addenum: until your main system will be "up" again, you may revert to a decent live system (e.g. Knoppix) in order to access the data stored on your harddisk "from the outside".
