    edgy to feisty upgrade question

I just ran adept 'fetch updates' and got a window asking to upgrade to feisty. Has anyone used this method to upgrade to feisty?? How was the experience? i.e. did it work.

    nvidia GeForce 6600
I tried Enlightenment once, it was pretty cool.

I don't know about 64bit much less nvidea but this works pretty well:
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FeistyUpgrades

I don't trust adept as far as I can....

I use synaptic but the above solution worked for a lot of people.

    Good luck and enjoy

Re: edgy to feisty upgrade question

having a problem with this as well. made sure i was up to date, then ran adept - i got the nice little popup window saying there was a new version, clicked through everything. final screen says that adept should now close and the upgrade should continue.
Upgrade window closed, but adept didn't shut...i checked my sources.lst and all instances of edgy have been replaced with feisty. The instructions posted don't mention running a full dist-upgrade unless you're having problems getting the upgrader to come up?

I've currently got 1229 packages waiting to upgrade thanks to the change in my sources.lst, but i'm not sure whether its safe to run a dist-upgrade?

Re: edgy to feisty upgrade question

I've tested this method three times. I admit the first didn't go to well and mostly becaue of Beta testing of that function. However, the last two I tried this method went very well with no problems. It isn't a start and leave process, so keep and eye on it from time to time during the process. Make sure the system isn't set to go to screen saver mode or Hibernate.

I also have a edgy to feisty upgrade question

my current system is edgy 6.10 and it is totaly updated with the update repo's turned on, i have fetched updates, restarted adept, rebooted my pc, and everything else i can think of and i do not get the updater nor can i hit the full upgrade button. The update instructions listed here - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Fe...38cad9420c000a mention a "Version Upgrade button" i have yet to see this anywhere. i have even gone as far as to do a sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and it also says everything is up to date, so im at a loss because id rather not have to dl the alt install cd and go that route.

here is a copy of my sources.list

            Getting annoyed...
Ran the installer manually, got a load of module related errors (couldn't find glade, vte, etc) so I installed them.

            Now stuck on this:
            Code:
            sudo python dist-upgrade.py --frontend=DistUpgradeViewKDE
            can't load DistUpgradeViewKDE (/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/kparts.so: undefined symbol: _ZN11konsolePart8setPtyFdEi)
can't load DistUpgradeViewGtk (No module named UpdateManager.Common.SimpleGladeApp)
            can't load DistUpgradeViewKDE (/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/kparts.so: undefined symbol: _ZN11konsolePart8setPtyFdEi)
            Any ideas?

Re: edgy to feisty upgrade question

Piling on, same problems on my Kubuntu box... Recent update of packages, Adept told me that there was a Kubuntu 7.04. So, I clicked yes to the upgrade. Click through the wizard, but nothing happens. Adept is still running (though the dialog said it would close), but no updating.

I have a Ubuntu machine. Did the updates on that (using the stock Gnome tool) and it basically has the same wizard, same questions, "Wanna upgrade to 7.04?". Except that it actually did close out the package update tool and started an upgrade tool. It's now merrily upgrading.

So, back to the Kubuntu machine, I rebooted, tried again - same problems. I do have the correct repos enabled. I can't figure this out.

                  Hi Jeromio

This is a common problem, unfortunately. See here what I did for upgrading (and look at the thread for more info):
                  http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...64811#msg64811

Incidentally, I think Ubuntu is still ways ahead Kubuntu in terms of polish and robustness. If I had to recommend a distro for a newbie, it would definitely be Ubuntu, even though I like KDE better than GNOME. Having said that, Kubuntu has been catching up. I hope it gets in par with Ubuntu for the next LTS release ... we can help reporting bugs and volunteering if we have time
