    Live CD doesn't boot

Downloaded 7.04 beta - md5sum matched. On trying to boot from CD, got past the initial splash screen then got the following:

Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 7121/2
SQUASHFS error: sb_bread failed reading block 0x2637
SQUASFS error unable to read block ac7607 size 6745

this gets repeated until I kill the process.

    Any thoughts?

The download was good, but the CD burn wasn't?

A lot of folks need to turn the burn speed down to 4X or even 2X to get the ISO burned correctly.

I know a few who said they had problems due to the burn speed, but I personally haven't experience that, and I burn mine at full. That error message you are getting appears to be memory related. I could be wrong, but I know once installed there is a GRUB entry for a memory test. I don't remember if the LiveCD has that test as well, but when you get the load menu for the LiveCD, see if it has that memory test listed and give it a try. Worth a shot. Let us know.

This is definitely CD-related. SquashFS refers to the method that (K)Ubuntu developers have utilized to compress the OS to fit onto your CD. Not only that, but "Buffer I/O error on device sr0" is a dead give-a-way. Either what you downloaded didn't match the MD5sum or the ISO didn't burn correctly or both.

            Some things to try:

            -A different burn application
            -Different burn rates
            -Different blank media

            Cheers

I see you said you already tried x2 speed and I assume you checked the MD5 again as well. Do you have another system to try? If those all check out and it was burned at x2 then by all other posts it should work; if not it tends to indicate hardware problems. I have also seen posts here stating similar and it turned out they had a bad drive. If the MD5 checks, then it is hard to believe otherwise, at least it has been my experience as such. Please let us know, so that we can further help. As soldierboy101st posted, I would most definitely also look at different media.

A couple of other things to try. When the LiveCd boots to the menu, run the CD check option. Also, for reasons totally unknown to me.... I had favorable results booting from a cold start... don't ask, I'm clueless on that one

Thanks to all who replied - it worked at the third attempt, using a completely new CDRW disk.....

                    Great to hear!!!

Hope everything else tests OK, but if it doesn't, post and post and more post. This is the best place to get help and suggestions.

                      hi all

my dvd with feisty fawn 7.04 beta
                      boot is ok
                      starting kde is ok
but loading the desktop manager is not ok
that kde logo with pictograms disappears
and only the background is there with nothing in it
                      cd check was ok

so any options to try ?
is it important to report it somewhere as a bug?

Perhaps a graphics driver problem -- try choosing "safe graphics mode".
