I disabled the broadcom wireless in BIOS (why didn't I think of that?), and there were no messages about it, but X still died, leaving me with a blinking cursor. Ctrl-C didn't do anything. It must be my Radeon.

Just for the record.. how did you get past this problem?

I have run into the same thing. However, I've installed edgy on an external hard drive and upgraded to feisty with no problems. That's probably a safer bet for anyone who's having a problem with a fresh install of feisty on a 6500/E1505
