Herd 4 to herd 5

I have herd 4 installed and updated, upgraded, compiz working etc.. do I need to install herd 5 or is everything included in the updates and upgrades and I basically have herd 5 already?

Hi,

You don't need to install over, if you're making sometimes dist-upgrade it's enough... Even when final version will come, it will be upgraded to final version.

thanks for reply. Do I have to do a :

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

or is

sudo apt-get upgrade enough

Hi,

Usually dist-upgrade is a better idea on a testing system, as it will keep your system like the target. upgrade is not working as dist-upgrade. dist-upgrade is using dependencies of new packages for example. If you want to know more, in konqueror paste this address :
