    No Install Options for GRUB

I really liked the fact that I could boot from floppy disk with dapper and edgy. I jealously guarded the modification of my master boot record for Windows. I had a spare partition so I decided to install feisty. I was very disappointed when feisty installed GRUB into my MBR without any prior notification and/or opportunity to cancel the installation. I don't know how to put the MBR back to its original state without reinstalling Windows XP.

    Hi,

From windows, open a cmd and type :
    fdisk /mbr

It will erase your mbr and replace by the windows one.

    Cheers

Fiesty does give you options for grub placement. On the last install screen where it gives you a summary of whats being installed and how, there is a button at the bottom labeled "advanced". Click it and it will give you option of where to install grub. This has worked for fiesty 3 and 4 for me. I currently have fiesty installed to a 60gb USB drive with grub loaded on it. (using this drive for test environment) Just had to change grub to be loaded to /dev/sda and not hd0.0.

Thanks for the replies. Didn't know about the fdisk command. Also, I was used to the Grub options being explicitly displayed, not hidden behind a button.
