    Trouble with X

After installing Herd 3 and getting my video configuration done the way I like, resolution and scan rate it works during the current session. If I reboot Xdoesn't start and I end up with a blank screen with no output to the monitor after boot.

I can reboot in recovery mode and issue startx as root but not if I login under my user ID from the console prompt

As root the xsession runs but I can't seem to get X to restart after boot unless I leave my video settings at the default that is setup during the install and I can't seem to recover an xsession with my regular login.

    Re: Trouble with X

    Hi,

Do you get an error message in /var/log/Xorg.0.log ? It will be much easier to solve with this.

    Cheers

      Re: Trouble with X

I finally got t the bottom os this.

On Intel 965 based boards Asus P5B-E, and Gigabyte GA-965p-DS3's specifically kernel updates beyond 2.6.20.6 need irqpoll, no apic, and nolapic passed to them or they don't boot completely.

I fell back to 2.6.20.6 until I got this figured out but they are running .9 now.

I can't get feisty installed at all on a P5B-Deluxe and am stuck on edgy.

These are pretty much dedicated folding machines so it doesn't really matter to me if things are a bit challenging
