I had to install feisty off the alternate cd to get it up and running. At the end of the oem install, it gave instructions to get rid of the temp oem account so that it is set up for first use. Well, stupid me, I forgot to write that down, and now I can't figure it out. Anyone know off the top of your head the command to run to get the oem version ready for first run? I know I could probably just create a new user and delete the old account, but I sort of wanted to see how the oem version would do this.

Anyway, my question:
How do I set up a new user, with admin privileges, before deleting the oem user? I need to know what to select to give myself admin privileges without me running in administrator mode all the time, if that is even possible . . .
I went into System Settings - User Management
Clicked "Administrator Mode" or whatever it was . . .
Entered my password
Clicked "New"
Entered my "Login Name" and "Real Name" and "Password",
but
How about "Primary Group" and "Secondary Groups"?
Here I wait for an answer . . .
Under ubuntu, there was a simple checklist of user privileges for setting up a new account. It was pretty easy, after one mistake ;-) to figure that I needed to check the "administrator" box, I think it was, in that list. I could then reboot into my new account, check it out, including admin privileges like seeing the user panel there, rebooting again into the oem user and then running the "sudo oem-config-prepare" I guess it was there too command. Then at the next reboot, I had my regular account with admin privileges.
It seems to me there are too many options for making a mistake the way the oem install (to get grub into root, for me) is currently set up for the kubuntu installation.

Re: Get rid of temp oem account
No replies from anyone . . .
Oh, well. I tried this again. Several other articles here and there give the strong impression that there is no need to add a new user from the oem user before running the "sudo oem-config-prepare" command. No one addresses it clearly, though. So, I did a re-install and made an image of the kubuntu root partition (grub lives there too on my system) with BootIt NG at first reboot.
Then, I did nothing inside kubuntu, I simply ran "sudo oem-config-prepare" and rebooted. Yes! It worked. It worked better than I had imagined. I can see why it is called an OEM install routine now. It gave me a graphical "Welcome to Kubuntu. Please enter your name, desired login ID, location, etc.
However, the kubuntu 7.04 beta is still not working as well as the ubuntu 7.04 beta was last week. It will not update correctly. The details are posted here:
http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3081423.0, so please, no one misdirect this thread away from the OEM user issue, but, briefly, I get three errors:
1) KDE Bluetooth Framework: Failed to connect to SDP server . . .
2) Could not commit changes - Adept Updater: . . . problem downloading packages . . .
3) (when manually launching Adept) Read Only Mode: Database Locked . . . another process is using the packaging system database . . .
Again, details are at http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3081423.0
