Powermanager shuts down immediately, lid closed error

    Hello-
I am getting the powermanager shutting down, lid closed message when every time the desktop loads. I found mention of it on the kubuntu forums but the fixes didn't seem to apply to feisty-
Can anyone tell me specifically what file I have to edit? I can start up in rescue mode, but powermanager doesn't load then and I can't seem to find it! I don't have any time to do anything in normal mode before the computer shuts off.
    Thanks-

Just to make sure (no offense intended): did you try actually or are you only guessing?

      Hi UnicornRider-
      Tried this one http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=13316.0
You responded to that one too- no luck, rm ~/.kde/share/config/power-managerrc says no such file.
I brought up the desktop under recovery mode but I can't find the relevant file to edit. The other forums didn't mention any other files to edit as far as I could find....I couldn't figure out how to start power manager under recovery mode either, I'm assuming it won't load because of no ACPI or something? I saw references to HAL but no way to edit them. Other info: this all started because I changed the default behavior in powermanager from do nothing to shut down when the lid is closed.
On a positive note, this is the first distro I've tried on this laptop, an emachines M5305, where all the hardware has been correctly identified and works from the start, including my $5 usb wifi! And the screen size and resolution is correct(widescreen 1280x800). The modem shows up under PCI but I can't figure out how to access it either. This looks to be the distro I'll be running on this machine, congrats so far Kubuntu!
      Thanks-

OK, I got it fixed to stay running at least. I went to /usr/share/python-support/kde-guidance and modified the guidance-power-manager.py script to "nothing" on self.act_call line 216, then rebooted to normal mode and switched the radio button back to do nothing. This is apparently a misread of the button state?
