so before i want to make sure my laptope graphical card work fine with kubuntu

Download and burn either, the LiveCD or the Alternate DVD. This allows you to 'try before you install.' No need to dump your XP yet.

Are you running a widescreen monitor or a standard 4:3 aspect monitor?

If your resolution is not exotic you shouldn't need a unichrome driver. The standard vesa driver should be fine and I don't know of anyone who has trouble running that. Unichrome is such a poor performer anyway I don't see much advantage to fighting with special drivers to get it to work.

I agree with snowhog, I wouldn't do away with xp until you are sure you have a functional linux system that does all the things you need it to do.

And a 'self correction' on my last post. Only the LiveCD can be used without performing an installation (if my aging memory serves me correctly. :P )
