Syncmal Not in Jpilot Plugins on Gutsy

Syncmal was included in Dapper but I can't find it in the Repos of Gutsy. This is needed to sync to Avantgo. (The same issue has been raised on the Ubuntu Forums.)

Obviously, one can attempt an install from the web:http://packages.ubuntu.com/dapper/ot...jpilot-syncmal
    http://jasonday.home.att.net/code/syncmal/
but I don't want to risk breaking my system.

    Any bright ideas?

Re: Syncmal Not in Jpilot Plugins on Gutsy

OK, so I found out on the Ubuntu Forums that syncmal will no longer be included as a plugin on Jpilot
    Check it out:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...hlight=syncmal
    https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu...question/15671

But here's how I solved this: HOW TO INSTALL SYNCMAL IN JPILOT ON GUTSY:

I did a sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list to bring up the Gutsy Repos, then scrolled down to:

    deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy universe
    deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy universe,

copied these two scripts, then pasted them below, then typed 'feisty' in place of 'gutsy' to read: deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ feisty universe
    deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ feisty universe

Then I saved the new file, opened Synaptic Package Manager, did a 'Reload', then a 'Search” for syncmal, and installed it.

Then I opened up Jpilot and found Syncmal in the Plugins, synced my Palm Pilot and it worked perfectly. 8)

I must add something very important to the above: afterwards, one needs to "comment" (i.e. put # in front of the script) -or simply delete- the Feisty version of these two scripts from the source list or it may destabilize your Gutsy system. So here's what I did after all the above:

sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list to get into the text editor.

Then I found the two lines that mention feisty and I put # at the begining of both lines.

Then I saved it with control-x "y" and enter.
After that I opened Synaptic and did a Reload. Hopefully all will be well.
