    black screen

    Hi,

I just finished making some small adjustments with sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg. Because I had problems with my resolution that did not go any higher than 600X460. So I did the following with the code that you see. Now I rebooted and I get a black screen with a flashing curser. I am totally a noobie with Kubuntu. So could you please tell me as simple as possible what to do. I just need more time to hack around with it to get to know the commands and stuff. See long time Micro$oft user and well you know. So that's for your patiences and time.

      Re: black screen

When grub is first loading, after the computer boots, it gives you an option to press the 'Esc' button to cancel the process; press 'Esc' and choose the option allowing you to begin Kubuntu in safe graphics mode. A terminal should appear; in the terminal type "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg"; this option automatically reconfigures xorg.conf for you. When given the option to choose your driver, choose the 'nv' driver and decide on the rest of the settings accordingly to your needs (there aren't many more options, you can probably go with the default settings unless you have different preferences). Your problem should then be resolved.

If you are attempting to install the proprietary drivers for an Nvidia or ATI card, check out the URL for Envy below:

      http://albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html

Envy will download & install the correct driver and configure xorg.conf for you.

Let me know how it goes . . .
