    no sound

Ok, so I have searched everywhere that I can think of, google, here, ubuntu forums, etc. Can't seem to find my answer anywhere, so here I am posting. I have an old HP Pavillion 360n that a friend gave me. Everything seems to be working fine on it, except the sound. I get no sound what so ever. I ran aadebug program from alsa, here are the results:

Sound issues with laptops are common - I have it with my laptop. The solutions seem to be as varied as the number of makes and models of laptops out there. But, there are some simple adjustments you can make to see if you can get sound to work.

You want to edit your grub menu.lst file. But first, as a matter of safe practices, you want to make a backup of the original. So, we begin.

Open a Linux Console and type the following commands:
      Code:
      cd /boot/grub
      sudo cp menu.lst menu.lst_original
You will be prompted for a password. Enter your password and press enter. Then, type:
      Code:
      kdesu kate menu.lst
Again, you will be prompted for a password. Enter your password and press enter. The Kate (Advanced Text Editor) editor will open with the menu.lst file ready for editing.

Scroll down to the first "kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-16-generic" line (it will be after the ## ## End Default Options ## entry). You want to add (type) the following at the end of this kernel line: acpi=off (be sure to add a space before acpi=off)
Close the file by File | Save from the Kate menu. Quit Kate.

Then perform a system shutdown/restart. If this fix works for your PC, you *should* have sound. Post back and let us know what happens.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
