Canoscan n640pex problem

why can't i change permission to /dev/parport0.
i get this error when i invoke: chmod g+rw /dev/parport0

"chmod: changing permissions of `/dev/parport0': Operation not permitted"

i think this is the problem why xsane does not recognize my scanner.
because when i typed scanner -L my webcam is detected as scanner,
but when i typed sudo scanner -L the webcam and scanner are detected.

any suggestions?

Try "sudo chmod g+rw /dev/parport0".
