    Re: Ok need some help

Yeah, it looks like it should work. It also looks like you did NOT have your permission denied when you ran the modinfo command. Whew!

When you need to run a command in Super User mode, you simply prefix it with "sudo", short for Super User Do. Just like you did when you installed alsamixergui.

See all those speakers at the top? All of them should be green and have little sound waves coming out of them. The ones that don't are muted. That's probably your problem.
        For external use only.

Thanks guys i fixed it with just a simple re-install, that was a relief, The thing that scares me is that i have 116 packages available to update, last install i just updated straight away so thats maybe where i got the problem as i didnt try anything i just updated heh

            EXCELLENT!

            Don't worry -- it's 116 out of 22,000+.

You haven't scraped the surface yet!

                Re: Ok need some help

i don't believe this, turned my comp on this morning and i have NO SOUND, go into the alsmixer and it's changed to some other card (my onboard soundcard i think)
Why would it do this ? obviously it worked before i turned my comp off but now, nothing, starting to dislike kubuntu already, its so complicated to use for a novice like myself

                  Yes, it is.

Actually, it's complicated to SET UP, more than to USE. Once you get these hardware issues sorted out and stabilized, it won't change unless you mean to change it.

I think there is a way to "blacklist" the onboard chip, if that is the problem. If you search on "blacklist integrated sound" on Ubuntu Forums, I suspect you'll find guidance.
