Ok need some help

Been looking everywhere for drivers/info well anything really. ok well i installed kubuntu because windows well it's horrid to be honest, now ive a sound problem with kubuntu. I have an Audigy 2 ZS which was working fine just before i installed kubuntu. now im new to this OS so really i have no idea what im doing, but ive been searching the net for hours now and i thought this is going to be my only hope of fixing it, Kubuntu can see my card and it shows the correct name (audigy 2 ZS) and i have selected it as the master channel Yet i still hear nothing from anything (i have a blown onboard sound device) so i cant check via that. So any help to my annoying problem would be very nice.

And i have already tried this dudes suggestion in someone elses thread.

Try this > open Kmix > there should be a tab marked switches click on it > their could be 3 or 4 listed items there Tone,mic boost,etc > you are looking for the one Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack unmark it ( it has a check mark or colored in box) now try your sound.

All the volumes are turned up, speakers are on & turned up, and plugged into the right port, etc.?

Unfortunately, I see more problems than solutions with Audigy cards, when I search on it at Ubuntu Forums.

Ahh great, Yes the volumes are up the speakers/amp is turned on and working on other channels (through dvd player/tv etc..) Anyway, Just been reading a part of that link, it says about the alsa thingy well i went in the terminal thing on kubuntu with "alsamixer" command and it is showing the other soundcard or something, "Card via 8235" which is the other selection other than the audiigy, so basically somehow i have to swap that to my audigy card. How do i get in the alsamixer settings ? i really dont understand this heh

Try a right-click on the speaker icon down on the panel. Choose "Show Mixer Window". I'm going to a take a look at mine and see if I can see you change the device.

Nah -- scratch that.

Do Alt-F2, and enter "kcontrol". This will open the KDE Control Panel. Click on "Sound and Multimedia", then "Sound System" and then click the "Hardware" tab. On mine (which only has 1 sound chip), the "select & configure your audio device" window is set to "Automatic". Maybe you can fiddle with that and get it to see the Audigy card?

That's what i was playing with before i came to the forum with no joy unfortunately. kubuntu definatly can see my audio card but somehow i have to select it with in the alsamixer thing (i think)

All you really do with the alsamixer is make damned sure that NONE of the channels are muted. But you kinda need to rule that out.

Sweet thanks i will have a read, but when i type things in the terminal i get permission denied, why is this ??/ and is there a way around it ? and in the alsamixergui i still cant change my card or anything like that

MMmmmmmmmmmmm ... that's NOT good, except for commands reserved for the Super User. For the above command (modinfo), you should be able to type it as I wrote it and get the output, like this:

If you are being denied permission to do this, then (a) there's a fundamental problem with your Linux setup, and (b) that problem could be relevant to the sound problem. :P

and about the permission denied, if i was to install kubuntu again (i have only downloaded updates so far so it wouldnt be a problem) how would i go about it ? i just used guided mode when i installed, how does "one become super user" hehe
