I'm not sure why it wont keep its setting. Every time I boot it defaults to 1600x1200 instead if 1280x960. What do I need to modify?

Re: FGLRX will not remember resolution after re-boot
In order to make the changes permanent, you need to do it in administrator mode.
K Menu => System Configuration => Monitor & Video => Administrator Mode
Now you can set it to whatever you want. No need to mess with console, this is what GUI is for.

Re: FGLRX will not remember resolution after re-boot
There is no problem with Xorg or KDE confs, they work fine, the problem is FGLRX, bad ATI support. Just search for how many users can't get it working out of the box, or can't run Beryl/Compiz without messing too many config files.
Not 1 specific solution is enough for everybody.

Topic: Adjusting monitor-power-off-time doesn't work -- again
http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3084428
In fact, the first time I tried to adjust the power-off time, it completely corrupted my X-server configuration, leaving me with a nice 640x480-resolution after restart. Luckily I had a backup of my xorg.conf.
So I can only advise everybody to refrain from using the "Monitor & Display"-interface.

I have been using Kubuntu for quite a while and i'm happy with it. Sadly, there has been a problem. I don't have much knowledge of the Kubuntu system but last night I left my copmputer on and when I came back this morning it got stuck so I restarted it and it all went normal until I reached the log in page. I put my username and password, all normal, then the screen went black and brought me back to the login page again.
About fglrx
There was this:
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...item=764&num=1
This driver is at version 8.38.7 and corrects an issue where running aticonfig with the --initial argument will create a segmentation fault that destroys the xorg.conf. This segmentation fault only occurs when running X with the vesa driver.

Re: FGLRX will not remember resolution after re-boot
Though I didn't have a single problem with Monitor & Video in any of my Kubuntu installations, I agree that there's a glitch with KDE making some changes permanent. For example, I use a Logitech MX500 mouse, I set it to 800dpi in the System Config but it always goes back to 400dpi when I restart. Not sure if it's KDE or Xorg problem.
BTW, it's easy to blame ATI, since the same questions about 3D desktop and 3D acceleration are asked over and over. LOL
