    geforce mx400

Hi guys, I'm totally new at linux, but I'm trying to trash windows, so I installed kubuntu and now I'm trying to configure my old desktop.
So I have an old video card... I'm not able to configure it to show a resolution higher than 1024x768. Could you please help me.
I tried to download with aptitude the nvidia-legacy. Then I ran the configure. Fortunately it backed up the X conf file, cause when I restarted kubuntu it freezed... so I had to go back to the old conf file... and now I'm here to ask you how can I do...
Please, give me some hint, thank you

Does this mean that you ran
    Code:
    sudo nvidia-xconfig
in a console window? If not, try that, then re-start the xserver with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, and let us know what happens. (It's OK -- you'll still have your backup.)

no, what I did is to open Adept Manager, download nvidia-glx-legacy. Then run

      sudo nvidia-glx-config enable

ok, now I'll try what you suggest...

I think the MX400 uses nvidia-glx/new and not the legacy. The legacy is for the old Riva-based cards.

Ok... I tried and now I have 800x600 as max possible resolution...
now I'll try with the new as suggested by myNigga

Ok, this is the error I get

              dpkg-divert: `diversion of /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 to /usr/lib/nvidia/libGL.so.1.xlibmesa by nvidia-glx' è in conflitto con `diversion of /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 to /usr/lib/nvidia/libGL.so.1.xlibmesa by nvidia-glx-new'

but when I look at the packages installed there's no nvidia-glx-new

I don't really know what to do

OK. Open Adept, and if the package "nvidia-glx-new" is marked as installed, mark it for removal, and remove it. Then, you'll have no GUI.

But, you can get your GUI back with this (better write it down before you lose your GUI):
                Code:
                sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx
I think this driver will run your MX 400.
