    ATI 1000 w/Dual VGA.....

I have just changed from Ubuntu to Kubuntu and so far so good. In my continuing quest to prove that Linux is better than Windows, I'm trying to get my dual display working. I didn't try very hard in Ubuntu because I was just learning....but now that I've settled on the KDE environment, I want to get it working.

I've read about the poor ATI support for Linux and that one fact alone could keep me from getting it to work..... but it won't keep me from trying This same card gave me a dual display in XP without a problem.

Has anyone had success in getting a dual display to work with an older ATI card? ... or should I stop hitting my head against the wall and just get an NVIDIA Dual VGA card?

    Thoughts? Help? Thanks!

I have tried big desktop ( BigDesktop allows for dual screen control by merging the 2 screens into one single screen, allowing direct rendering on both monitors.) with Ati 9600.

A little while back, I got bored, and hooked my TV up to my computer, making a dual-screen with my monitor. Worked as well as it was going to. This is a Radeon X1600, though, a much newer card than yours.

What you may look into is the Catalyst Control Center, a configuration tool that can modify your xorg.conf (I think). You might also try the Monitor & Display module in System Settings, but those modules are known to mess things up. They aren't the best-coded things out there..
